The port of New Orleans was often used as a trade-friendly location along the Mississippi river. When the port was given to France later becomes the capital of the French colony of Louisiana. By 1803 the United States bought the entire colony of Louisiana from France for $15 million. This shaped the future of the United States commercial and development headquarters.
