FDR received the firm support of farmers, laborers and the poor. Black Americans did not like the Democratic Party for its racist and exclusion policies in the South, but in 1936 FDR got more black votes than usual for a Democrat; many African Americans were enticed by his social policies and benefits. A former FDR ally had plans to run for the presidency, Republicans thought he can take votes from the Democrats, but that person died before November 1936.
