A sponsor or a producer can be seen as a patron of art in modern age.

    Explanation:

In the antiquity through to the classical age, artists always relied on patrons for their sustenance.

This patron would give the artist shelter and cover the expenses they needed for their art and in return would commission work from them and also allow them to do their own work.

In modern age, it is the sponsors and producers in the case of film and theater that do this for the artist to be able to produce their art so they are the patrons in modern society.
