    After World War 2 Soviet union immediately assumed control over Eastern Europe to create a buffer zone between Russia and Europe.

    Explanation:

    In 1945, the war ended and Soviets controlled much of Eastern European territory. they wanted to create a buffer zone between them and other powers. By 1948 the taking over was complete.

    however in the beginning they did not impose Communism severely and allowed coalitions and free press to exist. this was curbed very soon however and the takeover was owed more to the Red army than diplomacy.
