    No, it is estimated that there are 30 million enslaved persons in the world today. While places like the UK and the US have outlawed slavery, forms of slavery are still technically present not just in the world, but in the US as well. In the 13th amendment, it is stated that slavery or involuntary servitude shall be prohibited except as punishment for a crime. This has lead to mass incarceration of citizens as a very controversial issue. In 2007, Mauritania was the last country to criminalize slavery. Historically, we are not that far removed from the past, and contemporary slavery still remains a decisive issue in various parts of the world, with mass migrations of people seeing certain cases where they become part of human trafficking.
