    Add the 10 on both sides so you have 2k=16 then divide both by 2 so k=8

    I thinks you mean to solve for "k". To do this you must isolate the k on one side of the equation. Use the distribution method:

    2k-10 = 6

    Add 10 to both sides of equation

    2k = 16

    Divide both sides by 2

    k = 8

    To check the answer, substitute it in to the original equation:

    2 (8) - 10 = 6

    16-10 = 6

    6 = 6

    So the answer is correct.
