    The appropriate response is Malcolm X. He was an African-American Muslim clergyman and human rights dissident. To his admirers he was a gutsy backer for the privileges of blacks, a man who arraigned white America in the harshest terms for its wrongdoings against dark Americans; depreciators blamed him for lecturing prejudice and savagery.
