Explanation:
Hong Kong was an important strategic location and was noticed by the British. The Chinese have seen that the British are importing large quantities of opium illegally into the country.
This is why they were destroying drug, and Britain was embroiled in an armed conflict with China. This war in history is known as the Opium War. After the war, Hong Kong came under British rule. It was not until 1997 that the British left Hong Kong.
