After the death of Queen Elizabeth I, there was constant conflict between her successors and Parliament. Perhaps the sovereign who caused more conflict between Parliament and the English Crown was Charles I. He was the second son of James VI of Scotland. His authoritarian style and quarrels with Parliament brought about a civil war that led to his execution. These are at least three issues that affected the growing conflict:

Number one : Many English Protestants were offended by his choice of wife, Catholic Henrietta Maria.

Number two: In the face of opposition he did not try to negotiate but simply dissolved Parliament. Thus, ignoring his lords and ruling alone. This outraged the members of the houses because he used them only to reassemble Parliament to raise funds.

Finally, He imposed drainage schemes in The Fens which were extremely unpopular as they affected many people.
