Esperanza's jorney to the United States was very different from what she was used to, in Mexico her life had many comforts, and her trips had always been first class. This trip was different, a second class seat was waiting for her and her family, where there were peasants and very different people, in that trip she had contact with poor children and even refused to play with one of them, and her mother scolded her for it, in that jorney her mom made a friend, with whom she exchanged food for tablecloths she had made, when they arrived to the border they saw many rejections and became afraid, but finally after seeing burocracy, unjustices, pleading and tears, they could continue their journey to california.
