With an estimated size of approximately 44.2 million in 2018, German Americans are the largest of the self-reported ancestry groups by the US Census Bureau in its American Community Survey. German Americans account for about one third of the total ethnic German population in the world.

Irish Americans (Irish: Gael-Mheiriceánaigh) are an ethnic group comprising Americans who have full or partial ancestry from Ireland. About 33 million Americans - 10.1% of the total population - self-identified as being of Irish ancestry in the 2017 American Community Survey conducted by the U. S. Census Bureau.
