    During the English Civil War, the king found support in the noblemen or the Puritans of the court. These supporters were known as Royalists and also Cavaliers. The English Civil War was between the Parliament of England and King Charles I.

    The Parliament wanted to limit the powers of the king at first and later wanted to abolish monarchy altogether. This was opposed by the supporters of the King because the King was believed to be the supreme power and could do whatever he wanted. The English Civil War was won by the Parliament.
