It was symbolic to generational conflicts because the youth reject the norms of the 1950's that has been existing in the society

    Explanation:

The counterculture (1964-1972) was a period in which the counterculture youth rejects the normal way of culture of their parents that has been existing in the country. Cultural norms in areas like Vietnam war, racial segregation, rights of women, sexual morality were some of the norms they rejected.

However, it must be stated that the movement resulted into division in the country that it even went to the extent of affecting the economy which resulted into unemployment in the society.

It was however halted when the peace accord was signed in 1960 which became a major symbol during the counterculture era.
