The coup that took place in 1799 was planned by Napoleon Bonaparte in collusion with Abbe Sieyes and Talleyrand. The intent was to overthow the Directory and bring a Consulate to power, consisting of Bonaparte, Sieyes, and a 3rd member, Roger-Duclos. Shortly thereafter a constitution was adopted which gave the First Consul the overarching power - - and that was Napoleon's position. Thus the French Revolution came to an end and Napoleon came into power.
