Explain the internal factors that led to Russia's decline?

As goods became more and more scarce, prices went through the roof, and soon famine consumed Russian cities. World War 1 depleted the countries economy and led to the Russian Revolution in 1917 which led to the collapse of the empire and the takeover of the Bolsheviks.
