The two major reasons for Europeans to colonize the American continent were religious persecution and economic gains. In the American continent people were allowed to practise whatever they prefered and that too without any hindrance or fear of prosecution. Others went to the continent of America to find riches. The stories of Spanish riches spread far and wide. This made many Europeans to start colonising the United States and get the riches out of the colonies. These colonizations were sometimes sponsored by the rich people.
