Islam started to spread into southeast asia through India. After that, a considerable amount of the population became muslims. While some muslims stayed in India and co-existed with Hindus, a large portion became traders and relocated to Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and parts of the Philippines. Even though Spain and the Netherlands sucessfully converted a lot of the population of the Philippines and Indonesia to christianity, muslims represents the majority of the religion in the latter. There are still a large amount of muslims in India, second only to hinduism.
