The Continental Congress chose George Washington to lead the Continental Army because Washington had been the main leader during the French and Indian War. His commitment with the conflict had transformed him into a central figure of the war, which had also allowed him to earn a good reputation and to gain an invaluable military experience that contributed to launch his career. Therefore, the Continental Congress believed Washington was the best man they had to lead the Continental Army.
