What made it difficult for Mexican Americans to win court cases against Anglo Americans who laid claim to their land? The burden of proof was put on Mexican Americans to prove that they owned the land. The Mexican Americans only had a small number of representatives in Washington, D. C. New Mexico had recently became a state. The legal customs in the United States required that all land claims be made by groups instead of individuals.

    The correct answer is the first one: The burden of proof was put on Mexican Americans to prove that they owned the land. These courts were biased against the original owners and the guidelines of legal evidence were based on US law instead of Mexican law. The ones that suffered this the most were the small landholders as mexican land companies usually succeeded in court.
