The Call of the Wild was written by Jack London, published in 1903, and set to in Yukon (Canada), during the Klondike Gold Rush, when gold was discovered in the region and strong sled dogs were in high demand.

The book most likely ressembles his life, giving he traveled as a hobo to the United States during the 1890's. The worked in the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska and states that there was when he "found himself".
