Thomas Hobbes was the author and it was written in connection with the English Civil War and the decline of monarchy who was torturing the people. His book is a critique of his time and the civil state. He is very pesimistic about the nature of humans-the humans are evil in nature so they deserve to be under a tyrant who to control them. Basically, defending the monarchy such as a tool which existence is needed in order to control the evil humans.
