Answer: The Populists were an agrarian-based political movement aimed at improving into the Democratic Party in 1896, though a small remnant of the People's Party goal of ending the crop-lien system that had thrown so many farmers into poverty. In the 1896 presidential election, the Democrats nominated William Jennings.

Explanation: The Populist movement was popular for a while, but it eventually declined. There are some reasons for the decline of the Populist Party. One reason has to do with the needs of the workers and the needs of the farmers. The farmers wanted monetary policies that would raise the price of crops.
