This is true. Enlightenment thinkers wanted to improve human conditions on earth rather than concern themselves with religion. They valued reason, science, religious tolerance, and natural rights to life, having liberty and property. Enlightenment philosophers like John Locke, Montesquieu, and Rousseau all developed theories of government in which people would govern by the natural law bounded by natural contract.
