Loie Fuller was a groundbreaking and innovative American dancer who lived from 1862-1928. Her unique choreography famously takes inspiration from the foldings of Chinese silk. Her dancing involved cloths and silk go in movement with her dance with different lighting being cast on the cloth. She tried different types of Chinese silk to see how they fit with length and lighting. By manipulating various folds of silk with light being played on it during dancing, she developed her unique dance known as the "serpentine dance" which captivated audiences around the world.
