Comparison of the significance of foreign affairs to the United States at the time of its founding with its significance today:

The significance of foreign affairs to the United States at the time of its founding was not as much as it is today. The United States in today's date is known to have diplomatic relations with almost all the nations in the world.

The United States now has international allies and it shares good relations with all of them. The US is involved in multi-party trade with many nations in the world and this has increased the significance of foreign affairs for the US.

Back close to the time of the founding of the US, it was at war with countries like Great Britain, France, Mexico, Spain, etc., which makes it clear that the significance of foreign trade for the US was not as much at the time of its founding as it is today.
