Why were African Americans happy that the white primary ended?

After Reconstruction, southern states began a campaign to disfranchise African American voters in order to eliminate the Republican Party from Southern politics and safeguard white supremacy. So African americans couldn't vote but when the white primary ended african americans could vote that's why they were happy
