James the Just in his Apostolic Decree stated that male gentiles who became converts were exempted from the practice of circumcision and from total adherence to the Mosaic Laws or the Laws of Moses, which refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. However, Gentile converts were prohibited from eating meat with blood or meat from animals which were not properly slaughtered. Also prohibited were fornication and idolatry.
