The 13th, 14th and 15th amendments (1865,1868,1870) abolished slavery, gave citizenship to anyone born on US soil apart from Natives and enfranchised African Americans. Nevertheless the end of Reconstruction in 1877 undermined those advances with the passing of the Jim Crows which made African Americans second class citizens with the introduction of Segregation.
