Some genres of Middle Kingdom literature, such as sebayt or "teachings" and fictional tales, remained popular during the New Kingdom, although the genre of prophetic texts did not resurface until the Ptolemaic period (4th to 1st centuries BC. C.). Among the most popular stories are the History of Sinuhé and the History of the eloquent peasant and among the most significant teachings are the Amenemhat Instructions and the Loyalty Teaching. During the New Kingdom the writing of commemorative graphites in the sacred temples and on the walls of the tombs became a literary genre in itself, although it used expressions similar to those of other genres. The recognition of legitimate authorship was only important in a few genres and in the texts of "teachings" pseudonyms were generally used and misleadingly attributed to prominent historical figures.
