    The organizations formed by the Farmers during 1877 and 1892 were known as farmer alliance. Their main aim was to get rid of debt, poverty and the low crop prices. Those organizations mobilized and educated rural men and women to engage in asserting their power in electoral politics. The alliances were formed after the depression of 1870s. The two major alliances the Northern alliance and the Sothern alliance were founded in 1877. Both of them later absorbed the other local groups such as Louisiana Farmers Union and the Agricultural Wheel in Arkansas, decline in cotton prices and the drought on the planes were the major factors responsible for motivating farmers to join these unions. Black farmers had also formed their organization in 1886, it was called the Colored Farmers National Alliance. it cooperated with the white farmers organizations but stayed separate from them.
