Explain why the passage of the gag rule was an extraordinary and historically significant act by Congress.

    The gag rule was important for the Congress because it enabled them to silence anyone who wanted to pass anti-slavery legislature. It was made possible to abandon all legislature regarding abolishing slavery even before the legislature was submitted. It was fought against but somehow the pro-gag team always won.
