How did Isfahan become important under Shah Abbas?

Isfahan also called as Ispahān in early New Persian become important during the reign of Shah Abbas because he made it his capital city during the 17th century. He rebuilt Isfahan as one of the most beautiful and largest city.

He built it into a center for art and for the silk trade.
