The Seven Years War greatly changed the British government, as their extravagant spending on the military resulted in huge debt. In order to pay off this debt, the British government began to tax the colonists. The series of taxes passed by the British government without the consent of the colonists was one of the most important reasons why the US declared independence from Britain.
