The post-WWII economy was built on renewed public sector investment in infrastructure and other measures designed to stimulate the growth of consumer demand. Internationally, Canada was part of a project to rebuild the European economy and markets for Canadian exports, while keeping communism at bay. Much of the growth in domestic demand came from suburban growth and the creation of a culture of consumerism among adults and children.
