    It was mostly about support and endorsements. Bryan was nominated and supported by other parties as well like the populist party which was powerful at that time. Democrats wanted to use this support to nominate him as well because he would get support from all sides. This was due to his policies where he fought for things like lower tariffs and bimetallism and free silver which appealed to the masses.
