What factors led to Washington's success in the attack on Trenton?

    The Battle of Trenton took place in the morning on December 26, 1776, in Trenton, New Jersey, during the American Revolutionary War. General George Washington and his soldiers carried out a sudden attack on the Hessian army. Some factors led to Washington's success in Trenton. Washington realized that the Hessians would celebrate Christmas Day; as a consequence, the Hessian soldiers would not be prepared for battle. So he ordered a surprise attack on December 26 by surrounding the Hessians. As a result, Washington defeated the Hessians before withdrawing while many of them surrendered and were captured.
