    It was the the Aztecs! They called their capital "Tenochtitlan" and they called themselves the Mexica - after this the modern Mexico was named.

    The Maya were in the south of Mexico and the other two options: the Ghaznavids and the Abbasids describe Asian peoples, so not peoples of the New World.
