Why was there such a strong anti-catholic statement in America during the 1800s

    In the late 1800s, the majority of new immigrants were Catholic.

    As a result, protestant Americans viewed the immigrant Catholics as a threat to their jobs.

    This combined with the religious differences caused a lot of tension.
