The Vietnam War impacted the United States and Vietnam in various different ways.

In the case of Vietnam, there was a large negative effect in the natural ecosystem due to the use of chemical defoliants. These poisoned the land, destroyed the natural vegetation and led to a large number of babies being born with birth defects. The war also left many buried and hidden bombs that have made large expanses of land impossible to cultivate. A huge number of refugees and casualties also resulted from the conflict.

In the United States, the war was extremely unpopular. The war was used against the government in various social movements, such as the hippie and counterculture movement and the civil rights movement. The war also led to the end of conscription.
