Spartan women were expected to do more than many other Greek women. They attended public school and also had physical fitness training. They could own land and mingle with men in public. Even though they were afforded more rights than most ancient women, they were still seen as child-bearers, but the Spartans believed a strong woman would produce strong offspring.
