Prince Henry considered a visionary because he initiated Portugal's overseas discoveries which became the fountainhead of its empire. A visionary is someone who can imagine something that hasn't yet happened. Henry owned a globe when many people believed the world was flat and knew that Africa was more than endless land. He envisioned that if his sailors could circumnavigate the continent of Africa, he would find a water route to India.
