    Explanation:

Roosevelt began criticizing Taft indirectly in speeches that drafted his "New Nationalism" policies. He advocated the elimination of special interests in politics, direct primary and graduated taxes on income and inheritance. Roosevelt's platform also advocated a downward revision of the tariff rate, open publicity about corporate business practices and decisions, and laws that prohibit the use of corporate funds in politics. In addition, he supported the initiative and the referendum process, as well as the conservation and use of national resources to benefit all people. In contrast to what would become the political agenda of Woodrow Wilson in 1912, the new nationalism promised active oversight of the government and regulation of giant corporations rather than their dissolution. Monopolies would be made to operate in the public interest and not solely in the interest of its shareholders. Taft considered Roosevelt's ideas radically irremediable and listened to his conservative supporters, and especially his wife, who vilified Roosevelt as a man determined to destroy the nation and the president.
