In 1853, former United States president, Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address after the battle of Gettysburg where several lost their lives.

Lincoln dedicated a cemetery to those who died in the war. The Gettysburg Address has a long term impact and is considered one of the most influential speeches in history because it reminds people that human equality, freedom and justice are the most valuable for the United States and worth fighting for. The speech is a reminder that despite our race, background or wealth we are all created equally and should fight to maintain it.
