Fear of which power caused western european liberals to support the crimean war?

The fear on the power of Russia caused the European liberals to support the Crimean War. They fear that Russia, Turkey's nearest neighbour, will continue expanding (which begun successfully since the 18th century) to the south in the Black Sea region and will certainly even reach Istanbul.
