    Religion was used in political control of the territories from ancient times. Wars in the name of religion brings more people in fighting than the mere soldiers. The middle east was the bone of contention for the byzantine empire of west and the rising Arabs of east. Religion was used to claim land from each side. All three religions were born in the middle east and have religious holy places middle east. This further intensifies the struggle.
