    Being on the Mediterranean region, Italian merchants traded with Western Europe, the Levant region as well as North African states.

    Explanation:

    Italian traders had developed extensive links with different parts of the world and not only exported goods but also imported from different region.

    The crusades of the yesteryear's had opened the way for extensive links with the Levant, including cities such as Ankara, Constantinople, and Antioch.

    In North Africa, they exported olives while importing fish and wool. They also had huge trade links with Spain from where they imported iron and copper but exported olives and wine.
