The 26th Annual Symposium of the Jean Piaget Society was designated as the centennial conference, observing the occasion of 100 years since Piaget's birth. The conference was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Philadelphia PA, June 6-8, 1996. The stated theme of the conference was "Conceptual Development: A Piagetian Legacy." As the Jean Piaget Society described that theme, the conference was focused on "e xamining the manner in which he framed our understanding of, as well as our methods for studying, conceptual development."

Jean Piaget (1896-1980) was a psychologist from Switzerland who taught at the University of Geneva as well as the University of Paris. He is most known as a pioneer in the study of child development.
