What were advantages of living in a mideval city?

There would be food and water, you could ply your wares at the market place or barter for things that you needed. It also provided a semblance of protection you would not have outside of the city.

The advantages were that every thing was a whole lot cheaper and the disadvantages was that people got away with a lot more crime
