The strategic significance of the Harper's Ferry lies in the fact that it was located on the Potomac river upstream from the city of Washington DC. This increased the importance of Harper's Ferry. the abolitionists launched an attack on Harper's ferry to those family members and others who were still leading the life of slaves.
