Why did parliament raise taxes on the american colonies in the 1760s? britain was in debt from fighting the french and indian war. british merchants had lost many ships in american waters. britain needed money to gain more colonies in africa. britain wanted to build a new capital in the colonies.

    Britain was in debt from fighting the french and indian war. that is main reason why did parliament raise taxes on the american colonies in the 1760s and would be simplest answer
